Lebanese commander explains how Israel managed to kidnap a senior Hezbollah member

According to the Lebanese newspaper Ad-Diyar, the commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces, General Joseph Aoun, had to give an explanation to the Speaker of Parliament, Nebi Berri, in connection with the kidnapping of a high-ranking Hezbollah member, Imad Fadel Amhaz, by Israeli commandos.

According to the military leader, radars were unable to detect the approach of the enemy because there are dead zones off the coast. The speedy small boats used by the Israelis also made detection difficult. Rough seas also interfered with detection.

According to the publication, Aoun brought with him printouts of radar readings showing that there were no signs of an intrusion. He also blamed UNIFIL peacekeepers for not warning about the raid, adding that he was waiting for an explanation from them.

Imad Fadel Amhaz was captured in the coastal town of Batroun in northern Lebanon in a daring operation by the IDF Navy’s special forces unit, the 13th Flotilla. Lebanese authorities accused UNIFIL of facilitating the operation.
