Moscow is sure that without a comprehensive assessment of the positions of Yerevan and Baku and “taking into account the realities on the ground, premature peace will not lead to anything good”, on the contrary, it will create a risk of possible escalation of tension and conflict, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

In the interview given to the Russian RIA, he stated that not only significant efforts but also time are needed for the settlement between Yerevan and Baku.

“For this very reason, unlike Western pseudo-mediators, we do not push our partners to hastily sign a peace treaty,” Lavrov stressed.

Welcoming the significant progress in the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process, the Russian Foreign Minister spoke about the importance of fixing the peace process at the regional level and the exclusion of “external destructive intervention”.

“The desire of Washington and Brussels to exclude Russia from the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement process only increases security threats in the region,” Lavrov said.
