Political crisis in Germany: opposition leader lashes out at Scholz and his “political inability”

Wagenknecht heads BSW (Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht), a populist breakaway from the far-left Die Linke. Her party scored very well in recent elections in a series of eastern German states.

After the fall of the German government, she strongly criticized Social Democratic Chancellor Scholz. He wants to ask for confidence in parliament on January 15 to pave the way for early elections. “The chancellor’s planning is merely an extension of his political inability,” Wagenknecht said in an interview with news site t-online.

Wagenknecht also criticizes Scholz’s decision to dismiss Finance Minister Christian Lindner of the liberal FDP. “Instead of apologizing to citizens for the past three years, Scholz gave a self-congratulatory campaign speech,” it said.

Scholz plans to relax the German constitutional debt limit in order to be able to supply weapons to Ukraine, but according to Wagenknecht, that is precisely the sign that his government has failed. “And this while in Germany bridges and railway lines are in disrepair and millions of pensioners live in poverty.”
