American presidential election: Kentucky, Florida, North Carolina… The states won by Donald Trump

The United States, a federal country, has a system of indirect universal suffrage, crowning the candidate who manages to gather a majority of the 538 electors, or at least 270. Nearly 80 million Americans had already voted early, on 244 million voters. Here in real time are the states won by Trump during the election.

North Carolina (16 electors)

This is the first of the key states, which will decide the fate of this election, to fall: North Carolina chose Donald Trump, as in 2020, announces AP. The Republican candidate, who has stopped in this state four times for his campaign in recent days, wins the 16 major voters at stake.

Georgia (16 electors)

The state of Georgia, one of the most contested in the race for the White House, has chosen the Republican camp. Donald Trump thus inflicts a new setback on his rival Kamala Harris after having already won North Carolina. Georgia, which has a large African-American population, was narrowly won by Joe Biden in 2020. This state brings 16 voters to Donald Trump.

Pennsylvania (19 electors)

Wisconsin (10 electoral votes)

Another state won, that of Wisconsin in the Midwest of the United States. According to the Associated Press (AP) news agency, the Republican also won the 10 major electors in the state, with 49% of the vote. The Republican had already narrowly won Wisconsin in 2016, becoming the first Republican since Ronald Reagan to capture the state, according to AP.

Kentucky (8 electoral votes)

Donald Trump won in Kentucky, among the states where polling stations closed first. The former Republican president obtained around 70% of the votes, according to an initial count, indicates the Associated Press. The billionaire had already come first in this state during the last American presidential election in 2020. He won the 8 major voters at stake in this eastern territory.

Indiana (11 electors)

Another conservative state, Indiana chose Donald Trump, as in 2020. The Republican candidate obtained a little more than 60% of the vote there, while around 20% of the votes had been counted, around 7:30 p.m. local time, indicates the Associated Press. He obtained 11 additional electors.

West Virginia (4 electoral votes)

Oklahoma (7 electoral votes)

The former American president is given the victory by the Associated Press in Oklahoma. His victory in this state bordering Texas was in little doubt, while the Republicans have not lost a single county there since 2000. He won 7 electoral votes.

Tennessee (11 electors)

Florida (30 electoral votes)

South Dakota (3 electors)

Early projections also show Donald Trump winning in the neighboring state of South Dakota. He obtained three additional electors in this state, where Republican voters outnumber Democrats twice, notes AP.

Louisiana (8 electoral votes)

The eight major voters at stake in this southern state join those that Donald Trump has already won, according to AP’s first projections. The ex-president wins for the third consecutive time in this territory.

Wyoming (3 electors)

The least populated state in the United States chose Donald Trump, according to AP. The Republican candidate won his biggest victories there during the last two presidential elections, in 2016 and 2020.

Ohio (17 electors)

He had already obtained victory there in the last two elections: Donald Trump won again in Ohio, announces the Associated Press. He therefore won the 17 electoral seats at stake.

Texas (40 electoral votes)

Again, this is no surprise. Texas has not elected a Democratic candidate since Jimmy Carter in 1976, and this time will be no exception: Donald Trump wins the 40 major voters in this state bordering Mexico, where the Republican candidate went at the end of the month of October.

Missouri (10 electoral votes)

The victory of the Republican candidate was also expected in this state, which had already largely favored him during his two previous candidacies. While almost half of the ballots had been counted, around 9 p.m., the billionaire obtained a little more than 52% of the votes in Missouri, and thus won the ten major voters at stake, according to AP.

Montana (4 electoral votes)

The Republican candidate also wins in Montana, where one more voter than in 2020 was at stake. He pockets four additional seats.

Utah (6 electoral votes)

Kansas (6 electoral votes)

Kansas and its six major voters fall into the fold of Donald Trump, for the third time since 2016.

Iowa (6 electors)

The Republican candidate also wins six electoral votes in Iowa. A result which confirms the shift of this state, which supported Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, into the Republican camp, after Donald Trump had already won victory there in the last two presidential elections.

Idaho (4 electoral votes)

Donald Trump also comes out on top in Idaho, another Republican stronghold, where he wins four new voters, according to projections from the Associated Press.

Michigan (15 electors)

By obtaining the majority in Michigan, Donald Trump won not only one of the prized “swing states” but also one of those which represented here the “Blue Wall” (the blue wall, the color attributed to the party Democrat) of the Great Lakes. In 2020, this state, like its neighbor Wisconsin, was won by Joe Biden.
