Five ‘blue helmets’ injured in an Israeli attack against Lebanon that leaves three dead

At least five ‘blue helmets’ of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been injured in an attack by the Israeli Army carried out this Thursday near the city of Sidon (south), an event that has left three dead and three wounded soldiers.

The UN peacekeeping mission has indicated in a statement that the ‘blue helmets’ were inside a vehicle heading towards southern Lebanon when the attack occurred, carried out with an Israeli drone as it passed near a Lebanese Army checkpoint located in the area.

“Five ‘blue helmets’ have been slightly injured and are being treated by the Lebanese Red Cross at the scene. All of them will remain in their positions,” UNIFIL explained before confirming that the five injured are part of the contingent. Malaysian.

“We ask all actors to maintain their obligations and avoid any action that puts civilians or ‘blue helmets’ in danger. The differences must be resolved at the negotiating table, not through violence,” he concluded.

Previously, the Lebanese Armed Forces confirmed in a statement the existence of three dead and three soldiers injured due to the attack on “a vehicle that was circulating near the Auali checkpoint, in Sidon.

The car in question was traveling through the area and was heading towards the city when it was attacked just before reaching the checkpoint. The UNIFIL vehicle was right in the same lane at the time of the attack, according to information from the Lebanese news agency NNA.

The attack has led security forces to cut off traffic in the surrounding area as Lebanese Red Cross personnel move to the area to treat and transport the injured.
