Major fire at Schiphol Airport parking lot: 40 to 50 cars destroyed

A large fire raged in a parking lot near Schiphol Airport on Sunday night. An estimated forty to fifty cars were destroyed, says a spokesperson for the safety region.

The fire started shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday night in Rijsenhout in North Holland, a stone’s throw from the airport, on an area used as a parking lot for travelers. The local fire brigade responded with several units to extinguish the car fires. “When we arrived on scene, cars were on fire in several places,” said a spokesperson.

The police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
