Hunter places his dog’s head in front of the environmental agency – out of sadness and desperation

Prose (Spain) – He loved his hunting dog named Zancas. But the four-legged friend is dead – torn apart by wolves. Alberto Garcia Mejido was so angry that he took drastic measures.

Hunting with dogs has always been popular in Spain. According to “Pirsch” – a portal for hunters – even children learn how to do this Dogs trained and deployed. That was also the case with Alberto García Mejido, who, as a six-year-old, brought his father and grandfather into the world Mountains accompanied to hunt.

Mejido also bred Asturian hunting dogs. At the end of October, he and a friend took his favorite male, Zancas, hunting for wild boars in the mountains near Proaza in Asturias.

Zancas picked up a trail, disappeared – and never returned.

Wolves spotted searching for dog

Thanks to his GPS collar, the friends were able to locate the dog. Mejido was worried that his dog might have been injured by a boar.

Then the shock: At the spot that the GPS showed him, he found his dog’s torn testicles. There was blood everywhere. But where was Zancas? Mejido scanned the area. And discovered three wolves about 60 meters away.

Terrible sight

One of the Wolves had Zancas’ head and the transmitting collar in his mouth! Alberto chased the wolves until one dropped Zanca’s head.

Out of sadness, anger and desperation – wolves are in too Spain protected – he took his dog’s head with him and drove to the environmental office in Proaza. Once there, Mejido rested his head in front of the office door and complained about what had happened. The employees only believed the story when one of them drove to the bloody crime scene.

The hunter will not receive any compensation for his dog. Reason: According to “Pirsch”, hunting dogs are not considered victims of wolf attacks in Spain and the death of a dog is a risk for hunters.
