Trump confirms Musk to government efficiency body

The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday night (12) that Elon Musk, owner , will head the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) during his term, which begins in January.

“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, cut excessive regulations, cut unnecessary spending and restructure federal agencies – (something) essential to the ‘Save America’ movement,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social network.

The statement included a brief comment from Musk. “This will send shockwaves through the system and anyone involved in the government’s waste (of resources), which is a lot of people!” said the American businessman of South African origin.

In the statement, Trump stated that Doge could become “the Manhattan Project of our time” in public administration – in reference to the United States program that developed the atomic bomb in the 1940s.

“To drive this dramatic change, the Office of Government Efficiency will provide advice and guidance from outside the government and partner with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to drive large-scale structural reform and create an entrepreneurial approach to government never seen before,” said the president-elect.

“I hope Elon and Vivek make changes to the federal bureaucracy with an eye on efficiency while making life better for all Americans. Most importantly, we will eliminate the enormous waste and fraud that exists in our $6.5 trillion in annual government spending,” the Republican added.

Trump stated that the Doge’s work will be completed by July 4, 2026. “A smaller government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. I am confident that they will succeed!” wrote the president-elect.

Musk supported Trump during the presidential campaign and, at an event at the Economic Club of New York in early September, the Republican had already said that the businessman had agreed to manage a government efficiency commission if Trump were elected.

Musk himself had suggested the creation of the commission to increase the efficiency of public spending during an interview he held with Trump on X in August. At the time, the Republican said: “I would love for you to do that. You are the biggest cost cutter”, he said, referring to the layoffs at X after the billionaire bought the platform.
