There are “intense negotiations” between Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding the launch of the railway.

Intensive negotiations are underway between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the direction of unblocking the railway and its operation, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan announced in the parliament today, without elaborating in what format.

The minister expressed hope for progress in that direction.

Earlier, it became clear from the official communication of the parties that Mher Grigoryan and Shahin Mustafaev, coordinator of border demarcation works, discussed the issue of transport communication in the last meeting. The Speaker of the National Assembly did not rule out that Yerevan and Baku discuss the issue of unblocking the regional routes in a bilateral format under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Ministers.

The opening of the railway was actively discussed by Armenia and Azerbaijan with the mediation of the Russian side in 2021-22, the Armenian government even made a preliminary calculation, it was stated that the construction of the railway would cost 200 million dollars.

In his speech during the discussion of next year’s budget, Ararat Mirzoyan also referred to the work on the draft peace treaty with Azerbaijan, noting again that there are one or two wordings on which the discussions “continue more intensively and cooperatively”.

The head of the foreign political department once again expressed cautious optimism for the signing of the peace treaty.

As for the relations with Turkey, Ararat Mirzoyan mentioned that evaluation works are underway on the Kars-Gyumri railway.
