Alert level raised to red in parts of the Valencia region
The Spanish weather service Aemet scaled the warning level for the province of Valencia to code red on Wednesday evening. Particularly along the coast of the city in eastern Spain, a lot of rain can fall again in a short time.
Barely two weeks after the deadly floods in Valencia, which killed at least 223 people, the region is again hit by severe weather. Earlier, the Spanish weather service announced code red for heavy downpours in the provinces of Malaga and Tarragona. The southern city of Malaga in particular has had to deal with a lot of water in recent hours. Streets are flooded and water levels in rivers in the region are reaching alarm levels.
Up to 180 liters per square meter may fall near Valencia on Wednesday evening and night. Code red is in force from 9 p.m. until Thursday afternoon. “The danger is extreme. Avoid movements. There is a risk of flooding and flooding,” the weather service warns on X.
The severe weather in Spain, a result of the local weather phenomenon DANA, is expected to continue until Friday.
