Ukraine detains senior military commander for sending classified information to Russia

The Ukrainian authorities have arrested a senior commander of the Special Operations Forces who allegedly collaborated with the Russian Intelligence services, to which he had to transfer information about the operations carried out on the combat front.

The Ukrainian Security Service, responsible for the operation, has reported incommunicado that this lieutenant colonel had been recruited before the start of the invasion ordered by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, in February 2022. Last spring, Moscow decided “activate it.”

In particular, this double agent had to collect data on potential sabotage and reconnaissance tasks in territories controlled by Russian troops, both in eastern Ukraine and on the Crimean peninsula. Now, he faces a possible sentence of life imprisonment for a crime of treason committed under martial law.
