Weather in Germany: Hurricane Pauline brings the first snow

Does it fall or doesn’t it fall? It’s really supposed to snow in the next few days. Not just in the low mountain ranges and above. Help is coming from the hurricane!

The first snowflakes of the new winter season are possible even all the way down. Deep Pauline brings the first burst of cold on Sunday.

Graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung from Wetter.net: “Germany is dealing with a hurricane low. And thus also with polar air masses. These ensure that the snowfall line drops significantly and that snowfall can occur at medium and higher altitudes in the next week.”

Climatologist Dr. Karsten Brandt from Donnerwetter.de: “On Tuesday the cold air will really hit us with the storm. From Wednesday there could be chances of snow in the low mountain ranges and especially in northern Germany.”

Graduate meteorologist Jürgen Schmidt from WetterKontor is also certain: “The mild times are definitely over. On Monday snow will initially fall in the high areas of the low mountain ranges and the Alps. On Wednesday and Thursday there will be snow and sleet in some places down to low altitudes, and fresh snow in the higher altitudes of the low mountain ranges and in the Alps.”

This is what the weather will be like in the coming days:

Saturday: 7 to 12 degrees, chances of some sunshine especially in the south, otherwise a lot of high fog

Sunday: 7 to 13 degrees, increased clouds and some rain, but also sunshine in the middle

Montag: 7 to 11 degrees, changing weather, lots of clouds, windy and occasional rain

Tuesday: 5 to 9 degrees, sometimes sunshine, sometimes clouds and some rain

Wednesday: 4 to 8 degrees, windy, partly stormy and rain showers

Thursday: 5 to 13 degrees, lots of clouds and occasional rain, risk of storms!

Freitag: 2 to 6 degrees, on the back of the storm significant cooling and at times sleet or snow, at medium and higher altitudes a few centimeters of fresh snow

Will the winter weather stay? Questionable. Weather expert Jung: “After the short winter greeting, it could quickly become milder again. Peak values above 10 degrees would then be possible again. Some models even expect peak temperatures of up to 15 or 16 degrees in the last week of November. That would be significantly too warm for the time of year.”
