The head of Abkhazia intends to cancel the document that caused a wave of protests

The leader of the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, intends to cancel the document on investment programs signed between Moscow and Sukhumi. This statement of the press service of Bzhaniya was spread against the background of opposition protests.

“Such a decision was made in order to stabilize the situation in the republic,” said the press release of the Abkhazia presidency.

Since this morning, hundreds of oppositionists held a protest near the parliament building, which was accompanied by clashes with the security forces. The police used tear gas against the protesters who tried to break into the territory of the parliament building. According to reports and videos received from the place, the participants of the protest threw bottles and eggs in the direction of the security forces.

The draft investment agreement between Sukhumi and Moscow, which caused a wave of protests, was scheduled to be discussed and approved in the Parliament of Abkhazia today. In the background of opposition demonstrations, the session was postponed, while the participants of the action demand to abandon the document, claiming that Sukhumi is handing over its “own interests” to Moscow with the agreement promising economic benefits.
