The total number of victims recorded following the dana and subsequent floods that hit the province of Valencia rose to 217, one more than yesterday, while the number of missing was reduced to 14 (two less ), according to the latest official balance sheet of the Data Integration Center.
Meanwhile the president of the Valencia region, Carlos Mazon,he acknowledged that there were“errors” in the management of dramatic floods. “I don’t deny that there were mistakes,” he declared in a speech delivered before the regional Parliament to report on the authorities’ response to this unprecedented crisis.
“I will not shirk any responsibility,” he added. “As president of the Generalitat I want to apologize” to the people who had “the feeling that the aid was not arriving or was not sufficient”, added Mazon. “My first words will be of condolence and remembrance to the families of the victims and those missing due to the worst flood in Spain since 1962 and one of the worst natural disasters in Europe”. The session kicked off with a minute’s silence for the victims.
