UN climate chief asks G20 leaders for support

The UN climate chief called on the leaders of the world’s largest economies, the G20, to send a signal of support for global climate finance efforts. They plan to meet in Rio de Janeiro next week to help reach an agreement at the COP29 talks.

The call from the UN’s top climate official, Simon Steele, comes as negotiators at the COP29 summit in Baku try to reach an agreement to increase funding to combat the worsening effects of global warming.

“Next week’s summit should send clear global signals,” Steele said in the letter.
