Xi Jinping wants to “manage differences” with the future Trump administration

The President of China, Xi Jinping, expressed this Saturday (16) his willingness to “work with the new government” of the United States, led by Donald Trump, to “maintain communication, expand cooperation and manage differences”.

Xi’s statement was made at the beginning of a bilateral meeting between him and current US President Joe Biden, at the end of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders’ meeting in Lima, Peru.

Xi said he wants to “work for a stable transition of relations between China and the US for the benefit of the two peoples.”

“China’s goal is for the stable, healthy and sustainable relationship between China and the US to remain unchanged,” he added.

Last Thursday, the Chinese president called Trump to congratulate him on his victory and ask that the relationship between the two powers be “stable, healthy and sustainable”.

During the meeting, the leaders of two of the world’s largest economies also exchanged views on the main regional and global challenges. Biden condemned the entry of thousands of North Korean troops on Russia’s side, a dangerous expansion of the war against Ukraine, “with serious consequences for both European and Indo-Pacific peace and security,” said the American. Biden also expressed “deep concern” about China’s continued support for Russia’s defense industrial base.
