Delhi is covered in smog, air pollution reaches dangerous levels

Due to record levels of air pollution in Delhi since the beginning of the year, educational institutions have been closed and construction work has stopped. Cargo vehicles are banned from entering the Indian capital, with the exception of trucks delivering vital supplies.

The city was covered in thick smog. The concentration of harmful elements was 15 times higher than the maximum permissible limit established by the World Health Organization. The situation is expected to worsen in the coming days; even more drastic measures will be required to change it.

Authorities urged children, the elderly and patients with chronic respiratory diseases to stay home. Residents of the capital complain of headaches and dry cough caused by air pollution.
