The Democratic Party has decided: Manfredi will be the next president of the ANCI

The Democratic Party has chosen: Gaetano Manfredi will be the next president of the ANCI. The mayor of Naples favored by the Nazarene party was immediately found to be the most suitable to consolidate the broad field, cementing the alliance between the Dems and the 5 Star Movement. So after De Caro, the leadership of Italian municipalities remains in the south.

Until a few days ago, the derby was between the mayor of Naples and the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, the latter capable of attracting the favor of centre-right mayors and those who argue that at a time when he discusses autonomy, it would have been desirable to keep the leadership of the municipalities in the north. Secretary Elly Schlein, who has been called into question several times to find a unified name, has never expressed herself directly on the issue, but negotiations in the Democratic corridors have been going on for weeks. Thus Rome’s reasons prevailed and on Wednesday when the 41st assembly of the ANCI opens in Turin, the election of the new president will only be a ratification.

However, Lo Russo does not remain empty-handed: for him the vice-presidency and the possibility of running for a second term as mayor is gaining ground.
