Norwegian Crown Princess’ son arrested on suspicion of rape

Norwegian police announced on Tuesday that the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been arrested on suspicion of rape. 27-year-old Marius Borg Høiby has already been linked to a series of violent incidents.

The police previously announced that he is suspected of “having had sexual contact with a person who was unconscious or for other reasons unable to resist this act. The police can say that it is a sexual act without penetration.” Items were also seized from the home of Mette-Marit’s son.

At the beginning of August, Høiby was arrested after a nighttime argument in his girlfriend’s apartment. According to Norwegian media, investigators found a knife in one of the walls of the bedroom. He confessed to the facts and stated that he had been under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. That charge has now been expanded to include “domestic violence”.

He was then arrested again for violating his conditions. When he was arrested again on Monday, he was in a car with the victim from early August.

In addition, Høiby is suspected of having threatened a man with death online.

Høiby was born from a relationship his mother had with Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon before her marriage in 2001. Mette-Marit and Haakon raised Høiby together with his half-sister Ingrid Alexandra (20) and half-brother Sverre Magnus (18). Other than the latter two, the 27-year-old has no official role.
