Argentina notifies UNIFIL of withdrawal from peacekeeping forces in Lebanon

On Tuesday, November 19, Argentina notified UNIFIL of its withdrawal from the peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon. This was reported by Reuters.

“Argentina has asked its military to return home,” UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tenenti said, referring all questions from journalists to the Argentine government.

In recent months, more than 20 Blue Helmets have been wounded in shelling in southern Lebanon. UNIFIL blames Israel for most of its attacks. Israel, in turn, claims that Hezbollah is using UNIFIL forces as a “human shield” and has recommended the evacuation of peacekeeping troops for their safety.

On Tuesday, November 19, the Italian Ministry of Defense said that an Italian military position within UNIFIL was hit by eight rocket attacks. The IDF, in turn, published the results of its investigation, according to which the shelling came from the Al-Malkiya area, located north of the Blue Helmets’ positions.
