Boris Pistorius renounces his candidacy for SPD chancellor

The German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is not available to apply for the SPD candidacy for chancellor. He announced this to party members in a video published on Thursday.

There has been heated discussion in the SPD for days as to whether the party should have Chancellor Olaf Scholz or Defense Minister Pistorius should go into the federal election at the end of February as the top candidate. In the representative Infratest survey from the beginning of this week, 60 percent said Pistorius would be a good candidate for chancellor for the SPD. Only 21 percent say this about Scholz.
