Tourist ship sinking in the Red Sea, more survivors found

Egyptian authorities have found four more survivors and four bodies after the tourist boat ‘Sea Story’ sank in the Red Sea yesterday. This was announced by the governor of the Red Sea region, Amr Hanafi, explaining that the people found alive were two Belgian citizens, one Swiss and one Egyptian. The four dead, however, have not yet been identified.

The tourist ship was traveling with 44 people on board, 31 tourists of different nationalities and 13 crew members, when it sank in the Red Sea.

What happened

The ship ‘Sea Story’ crashed due to strong waves in the Red Sea. A large wave hit the boat, causing it to capsize, the regional governor, Amr Hanafi, wrote on Facebook, referring to accounts provided by the crew and tourists after the accident. The ‘Sea Story’ reportedly capsized within minutes and some travelers were unable to get out of their cabins in time. The boat had no technical defects and had all the necessary permits, including the green light after an inspection in the spring, Hanafi said.
