‘Thanksgiving Day’ has arrivedone of the most heartfelt holidays by the American people and which takes place every fourth Thursday of November. For one part of the country that stops – schools, universities, public offices and banks are closed – there is another that tries to take advantage of the holidays to reunite with distant family and friends. Many have already reached their destinations, while ‘last minute’ travelers will have to find a way to avoid the copious ‘arctic’ storm of rain and snow which is hitting from the northern Rocky Mountains to the Midwest, with serious repercussions on flights and roads.
The Transportation Security Administration predicted that about 71.7 million people will travel by car this Thanksgiving, more than a million more than last year. The storm, which brought heavy snowfall in the Rocky Mountainsis now expanding eastward and towards the Midwestbringing rain with a chance of ice and snow, which will intensify in the evening from St. Louis to Indianapolis and as far south as Pittsburgh. Overnight, the storm continued to move eastward, bringing cold rain along the I-95 corridor from Richmond to Boston in the early hours of Thanksgiving morning.
According to FlightAware, the storm caused yesterday nearly 4,000 delays and 45 cancellations for domestic flights entering or leaving the United States. The ‘epicentre’ of the flight chaos was Newark airport in New Jersey, which remained paralyzed from 1pm to 2am due to a lack of air traffic controllers, causing over 300 delays of at least 95 minutes. The Federal Aviation Administration reported on X that delays are expected in Denver and Salt Lake City ahead of Thanksgiving due to snow and ice. In the Colorado city alone yesterday there were over 600 flight delays. Boston, Dallas and Las Vegas were also hit with delays of over 100 minutes, FlightAware reports. For today, the airports to watch are Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Pittsburgh and Buffalo.
Things aren’t much better for those traveling by road, with the I-80, I-64 and I-75 highways being swamped by rain, and I-25 and I-70 slowing down heavily due to snow at the Rocky Mountains. Today, very heavy rain is expected on the I-95 corridor from Florida to Maine, and heavy snow in the inland areas of the Northeast and New England. In points north of the Hudson Valley, upstate New York and interior New England, 1 to 3 inches of wet snow is expected, with peaks of more than 6 inches at the highest peaks. Between northeastern Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, up to 6 inches of snow, and potentially more, are possible, with strong winds that could lead to power outages in the area.
Trump: “Happy Thanksgiving even to the crazy far left”
Donald Trump does not miss the opportunity to lash out against his adversaries, especially if defeated, even in the message with which, in the early hours of the morning, he wished all Americans a happy Thanksgiving: “Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, even to the extremely crazy leftists who have tried in every way to destroy our country but have failed miserably.” the. “They will always fail,” the Truth Social post against Democrats continues, “because their ideas and policies are so hopelessly bad that the great people of our nation have just secured a landslide victory for those who want to make America great again.” . “Don’t worry, our country will soon be respected, productive, just and strong – he concludes referring to his next inauguration in the White House – and you will be proud as never before to be Americans”.
