US President-elect Donald Trump wants to appoint Kash Patel as head of the FBI. He announced this on Saturday evening on his social network Truth Social.
“I am proud to announce that Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel will be the next Director of the FBI. Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator and America First warrior who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice and protecting the American people,” Trump announced.
Patel is a loyal ally of Trump. He was a government advisor during his first term as American president. Patel, author of the book “Government Gangsters”, makes no secret of his desire to fight the supposed ‘deep state’ in the American government that would thwart Trump. He also severely criticized the FBI.
With this announcement, Trump confirms that he no longer wants Christopher Wray to head the FBI. Wray should resign or be fired. After all, the director was appointed by Trump in 2017 and FBI directors are appointed by law for a period of ten years to strengthen their political independence.
However, Trump’s relationship with Wray soured late in his first term. This did not improve when the intelligence service conducted a search of Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s residence in Florida, in the summer of 2022. Trump was charged with withholding classified documents, but that case has been dropped now that Trump will become president again in January.
