Near ski station in France: dead and injured in coach accident

Several people were killed and others were seriously injured in a bus accident in the Eastern Pyrenees in southern France.

As the radio station “France Info” reported with reference to the prefecture there, at least three people died and eight others are said to be seriously injured. There had previously been talk of two deaths and five seriously injured.

The accident occurred late Sunday afternoon on a mountainous road towards Porté-Puymorens, a ski resort around 100 kilometers from the princely state of Andorra. According to initial findings, the Spanish coach is said to have crashed into a rock and overturned. 47 people are said to have been on board.

The extent of the damage is devastating: photos from the scene show only half of the bus still intact. The other is completely destroyed.

Three helicopters and around a hundred firefighters and rescue workers were on duty. Nothing was initially known about the cause of the accident.
