Grillo posts a photo with Casaleggio and announces "a delicate message"

A photo in which he appears together with Gianroberto Casaleggio, co-founder of the Movement, which evokes a reference to the origins and the announcement of a “delicate message” to be spread: Beppe Grillo, on X, writes thus that “tomorrow, Tuesday at 11.03 , connect on my blog, on my YouTube channel and on my Facebook page. I have a delicate message to announce“. A message accompanied, in fact, by the image of the two founders of the 5 Star Movement locking eyes.

“I don’t expect anything”, commented Giuseppe Conte in response to journalists who asked him what he expected from Grillo’s social message. “He asked for a re-vote and we will re-vote. To those who still asked for the reconfirmation of a democracy, we responded by simply calling all members to vote. This is democracy, period.”

Meanwhile, the former transport minister, Danilo Toninelli, spoke about the future of the Movement, as a guest on ‘Giù la maschera’ on Rai Radio Uno, an episode dedicated to the theme ‘Polvere di (5) stelle?’. “Giuseppe Conte wants a party in which a leader decides – said Toninelli -. The direct democracy of the members no longer countspoliticians can have a lifelong political career. This is not the 5 Star Movement. Beppe Grillo and Gianroberto Casaleggio were the united leaders of the movement, but in a different historical moment and in any case they relied on direct democracy, on the network of members and if they made agreements. We were a method. In 2013 Gianroberto Casaleggio told us in a hotel in Rome: ‘You will be your only great enemy. And I put two rules: two mandates and direct democracy.’ What are they doing now?” he added.

For Toninelli, “Conte is a friend and it is right that his party is formed. However, it is unfair that they try to eliminate the person who made him so. Conte is Conte thanks to Grillo. A constituent process managed by the Conte himself is unacceptable.” The former minister will accept whatever result emerges from the repetitions of the statutory votes scheduled for December 5 and is willing to “remain in the Movement. Even if they will kick me out like they will kick out everyone who doesn’t agree with this progressive stuff. Conte, and I say this with deep respect, is halving the electorate of the 5 Star Movement with every vote. We have never seen a political leader who loses more and consolidates more.”

For Toninelli “there is no longer a community passionate about the project, united and moving to wage battles. Conte is a man of the system. He moves like the other party leaders. I hope that the Movement can die with dignity as it was born. Do you know how many people have written to me in recent weeks and who are suffering? Better to leave a political vacuum than move forward with a false fullness. Much better is a void in which many people will find themselves without a point of reference and probably in a few years something new anti-system will be born.”
