About 50 people were detained during a protest in Tbilisi

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that during the protest that took place on the night of December 7 in the center of Tbilisi, 48 people were detained.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili commented on the brutal dispersal of a peaceful demonstration by special forces: “Georgians fighting for freedom and a European future are facing the 9th day of brutal terror and repression. Gross violations of fundamental human rights – kidnappings, beatings, illegal searches and arrests – continue.” .

The Ombudsman of Georgia, in turn, emphasized that at the time when law enforcement agencies began to disperse the protest using water cannons and tear gas, it was peaceful in nature and there were no legal grounds for interfering with freedom of assembly.

In just 10 days of protests, 360 people were detained, the Ministry of Health and the police provide data on more than 100 victims.
