They are hot on his heels. New York authorities are apparently hopeful that they will be on the trail of the hooded killer who executed manager Brian Thompson (†50).
“The net is tightening,” said Mayor Eric Adams (64) on Saturday. A backpack believed to belong to the attacker was found in Central Park on Friday.
On Saturday it came out: Inside was a jacket and Monopoly play money. This is reported by the New York Post.
Accordingly, the backpack was sent to a laboratory for forensic examination. NYPD Chief Joseph Kenny described the backpack as “very distinctive.” The CEO of the fashion company Peak Design also said the backpack could be one of his company.
Killer ambushed manager
The hitherto unknown killer had Thompsonthe head of the largest US health insurer United Healthcare, shot dead in the middle of New York. Previously, he approached Thompson from behind, then pulled the trigger coldly.
According to the New York Post, he is said to have used a Brügger & Thomet VP9 pistol in his assassination attempt. This is reported on the basis of unnamed sources. The weapon is a silenced pistol, the predecessor of which was used by spies and agents during World War II.
Assassin probably no longer in New York
Investigators have been searching for the attacker ever since. According to “CNN”, they now assume that the killer New York has already left. According to Joseph Kenny, the suspected shooter got into a taxi that took him to a bus center from which intercity buses run. Since then there has been no trace of the killer.
The New York Police Department released several images from surveillance cameras. In one, parts of the unknown man’s face can be seen – apparently he had the mask that he often wore during one Flirts with a hotel employee. That was exactly the moment his face was seen on a surveillance camera for the first time, according to CNN.
The discovery of the backpack, jacket and play money could now bring the investigators even closer to the killer.
