France calls on Israel to leave the buffer zone in Syria; Israel Katz thinks differently

France calls on Israel to withdraw from the buffer zone in southern Syria, according to the AFP news agency. This is the first western country to express such a call. A French official briefed on the details told “Maariv”: Arab countries began to see this as an aggressive and provocative act whose essence is unclear, and Israel needs to explain what exactly it is doing there.”

“The international interest is for Syria to have one rule, one sovereignty,” the source continued. “Together with the international community, Israel is called on to support this goal, to strengthen stability in Syria and not to do anything that could undermine it.” Contrary to the French call, the Spanish Foreign Minister stated: “I understand Israel’s concerns regarding Syria.”

Earlier today, the Minister of Defense spoke Israel Katz and the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin Regarding the situation in Syria, when Minister Katz emphasized to the Secretary that after October 7, the State of Israel will not allow a situation in which its citizens will be in danger, therefore, out of security considerations, he instructed the IDF to occupy control points in the buffer zone in Syria. Minister Katz also spoke with the Secretary of Defense about the IDF’s strikes in Syria, which were carried out in light of the danger that strategic weapons will be directed against the State of Israel in the future.

In the last few days, the IDF has been acting decisively in Syria in the “Arrow of the Bashan” operation. One of Israel’s main goals is to prevent Hezbollah and the rebels from controlling the weapons that are in the Syrian army, and transferring them to Lebanon.
