Fiji tourists with possible alcohol poisoning are stable

Seven tourists who were hospitalized after drinking cocktails at a luxury hotel on the Fiji archipelago are in stable condition. The government of the Pacific Islands reported this on Monday. The tourists fell ill on Saturday evening, probably due to alcohol poisoning, and were hospitalized in critical condition. Among the tourists are four Australians and one American.

“We are reassured that their condition was stable this morning and we hope that their condition continues to improve,” said the ministries of health and tourism of Fiji, located east of Australia. A spokesperson for the hotel in Fiji where the tourists fell ill said an investigation was underway and the hotel was awaiting test results from health authorities.

Six tourists recently died in the Southeast Asian country of Laos after drinking toxic alcohol. The victims were tourists from Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Denmark. Other tourists, including a Dutchman, had to go to the hospital after drinking free shots. Presumably, poisonous methanol was added to produce alcohol more cheaply.
