South Korea, impeachment of President Yoon: trial begins

The South Korea’s Constitutional Court has begun the impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk Yeolsuspended from office after a failed attempt to impose martial law.

“The first deliberative meeting on the impeachment motion began at 10.00,” a spokesperson for the Constitutional Court told AFP.

Meanwhile, the leader of South Korea’s ruling party has announced his resignation following Yoon’s impeachment.

“I resign as leader of the People Power Party – declared Han Dong-hoon in a press conference – I sincerely apologize to all the people who have suffered due to the emergency martial law”.

Pyongyang: “Puppet Yoon is leader of the rebellion”

North Korea has labeled South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol a “rebellion leader” who was investigated for “rebellion” after justifying martial law with his desire to protect the country from “North Korean communist forces.” “The investigation into the puppet Yoon Suk Yeol, leader of the rebellion, and his accomplices is ongoing,” explained the official North Korean news agency KCNA, referring to the vote on the president’s impeachment.
