Putin: “Israel has become the main beneficiary of the events in Syria”

Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking on December 19 at a press conference dedicated to summing up the results of the year, paid considerable attention to the events in Syria, where the regime of Bashar al-Assad, friendly to Russia, was overthrown.

“The main beneficiary of the events taking place in Syria, in my opinion, is Israel. You can have any attitude towards what Israel is doing, but Russia condemns the seizure of any Syrian territories,” the Russian president said.

Putin also touched upon the situation in Gaza: “I don’t know what final goals Israel is pursuing in the Gaza Strip, but this is only worthy of condemnation, and we have repeatedly done this at almost all levels – starting with the public and in the UN Security Council.”
