Great Britain included 5 Georgian officials in the list of sanctions

British authorities announced on Thursday their decision to include Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and four other officials on the sanctions list.

“Great Britain has imposed sanctions against five Georgian officials who are responsible for attacks on journalists and peaceful demonstrators in Georgia,” the press release of the British government says.

In addition to Gomelauri, the latter’s deputy, the police chief of Tbilisi, the director of the Special Assignments Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and his deputy were sanctioned. The United Kingdom government notes that the Georgian authorities have launched a systematic crackdown on protesters, civil society, the media and the opposition, who are fighting against the anti-European decisions of the “Georgian Dream”. According to a statement from the British authorities, the sanctions include an entry ban to the UK and an asset freeze.
