The US House of Representatives passed a bill extending government funding

The US House of Representatives on Friday passed a bill that averts a government shutdown, ignoring President-elect Donald Trump’s demand to approve an increase in the national debt limit.

Now it is the turn of the Senate, which must also approve the bill before sending it to the current president, Joe Biden, for his signature. The White House said Biden will sign the bill to ensure the smooth operation of the US government.

The bill would extend government funding through March 14, provide $100 billion to states affected by natural disasters and $10 billion in aid to farmers.However, the package does not include an item to raise the national debt limit, a difficult task that Trump wanted to achieve by his Jan. 20 assuming office.
