At least 20 children killed in Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan

The UN says the airstrikes are a violation of international law. The United Nations is calling for an investigation. “International law requires military personnel to take necessary precautions to prevent harm to civilians, including distinguishing between civilians and combatants during operations,” it said in a statement.

At least 20 children were killed in the attacks, according to the UN Children’s Rights Fund (UNICEF). “Children are not and should never be targeted,” UNICEF South Asia Director Sanjay Wijesekera said on X.

Afghan authorities reported that at least 46 civilians were killed in the airstrikes. The victims are said to be refugees from the Pakistani region of Waziristan.
