The Italian journalist Cecilia Sala was arrested and imprisoned in Iran

The Italian newspaper “Il Folio” reported yesterday (Friday) that his article, Cecilia Sala was arrested in Iran and transferred to “Evin” prison. The prison is notorious as a torture site for the Islamic Republic against political prisoners. The newspaper pointedly reads: “Journalism is not a crime.” Iran chose to endanger what all Western countries have in common: our freedom.’

According to the report, the journalist was already arrested on December 19. The newspaper made a decision to publish the news of her arrest after making sure that the publication would not jeopardize the diplomatic efforts to return home. According to the report, the journalist stayed in Iran as part of her work with a valid visa. She went on coverage “in a country she knows and loves”.

Prime Minister of Italy Georgia Maloneyshe said: “I am following with great concern the story of the Italian journalist Cecilia Salle, who was arrested in Iran on December 19. My heart goes out to her family. I hope she can return home as soon as possible.”

Antonio Taiani the Italian Foreign Minister, said: “Cecilia Sala’s health condition is fine. She is in an isolated cell. We cannot say anything else at the moment, we are following the situation very carefully. The accusations attributed to her are still unclear to us. The government is acting with utmost discretion to to return her to Italy. We are working in cooperation with the family who asked to keep the situation confidential.”
