Zelensky. The US is preparing to announce a “significant” aid package to Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the United States was preparing to announce a “major decision” that would include “significant aid packages” to support the country’s armed forces.

“We expect an official announcement tomorrow (December 30) of significant support packages for our soldiers,” Zelensky said in a late-night video message on December 29.

“It will be more of what worked for the defense of Ukraine during these years of war. And it should immediately support the stabilization work of the front. the more complete it is supplied from partners, the more the lives of our soldiers will be saved,” he added.

Zelensky’s statement was made against the background of information appearing in the American media that Washington is preparing a new aid package of 1.25 billion dollars for Ukraine.

Russia has been pushing back Ukrainian troops on the front lines for weeks and announced on December 29 that it had captured another city in Ukraine’s Donetsk region.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces had captured the settlement of Novotroitske, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Pokrovsk, which had a pre-war population of 6,300.

Ukraine’s armed forces did not comment on the capture of Novotroitske, but said Russian troops had carried out 133 attacks, most of them in the Pokrovsky region.
