Zelensky appoints military ombudsman for Ukraine

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced this Monday the appointment of Olga Reshetilova as the new military ombudsman, a figure who will be in charge of protecting the rights of personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and their families.

“Olga is a renowned, experienced and effective Ukrainian human rights defender. She has already done a lot to build our state institutions and support Ukrainians,” President Zelensky said on his official Telegram channel.

Thus, the Ukrainian president has now called on the country’s authorities and civil society to promote a bill that includes the functions and tasks of this new figure in order to guarantee the rights of military personnel and their families.

“Our soldiers must receive effective tools to protect their rights and there must be a true modernization of the personnel management of the Ukrainian Defense Forces,” the Ukrainian leader stressed.

The war in Ukraine broke out almost three years ago, when at the end of February 2022 the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, ordered his Army to invade Ukrainian territory. Since then the war has developed without apparent solution of continuity.
