Putin and Xi Jinping highlight stability between Russia and China

The dictators of China, Xi Jinping, and Russia, Vladimir Putin, exchanged New Year greetings this Tuesday (31), and highlighted the cooperative and stable relations between the countries.

Despite the “century of accelerated changes and a volatile international situation”, relations between Beijing and Moscow “have always advanced hand in hand along the correct path of non-alignment, non-confrontation and no attack on third parties”, Xi said, according to the Chinese official news agency Xinhua.

The Chinese president recalled the three meetings he had in person with Putin this year and the progress made towards “mutual political trust and strategic cooperation” between Beijing and Moscow.

“The bond of sincere friendship between the two countries has been further strengthened,” Xi emphasized, adding that both sides have “reached broad consensuses” and “made important contributions to promoting the solidarity and cooperation of the ‘global south’.”

In turn, Putin highlighted the “cooperation between both parties in the areas of trade and economy, energy, transport, science and technology” in a year that marks 75 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Beijing and Moscow.

The Russian leader conveyed to Xi his willingness to “maintain contacts” with the Chinese president and for the two countries to “strengthen their cooperation and coordination on multilateral platforms”, according to “Xinhua”.

Coordination between China and Russia “is not only in full accordance with the interests of both peoples, but also favors the maintenance of international and regional security and stability”, according to the Russian president.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, China has maintained an ambiguous position, during which it has called for respect for the “territorial integrity of all countries”, including Ukraine, and attention to “the legitimate concerns of all countries”, in reference to Russia, a country with which it has deepened its exchanges in recent years.
