Italy asks Iran for the release of Cecilia Sala

This morning Italy delivered a verbal note to Iran in which it “requests immediate release” and “total guarantees on the conditions of detention of Cecila Sala”, detained in the infamous Evin prison. This was reported by Farnesina sources. The verbal note from the Italian Foreign Ministry was delivered to the Iranian government, through the ambassador to Tehran Paola Amadei.

The initiative is part of the work that the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, is carrying out with the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio and the Undersecretary to the Prime Minister Alfredo Mantovano, to arrive at a rapid and positive solution of the story. The verbal note delivered today also contains a request for clarity on the conditions of detention, on the possibility of providing comfort items and on the guarantee that these are actually delivered to the Italian citizen.
