“Deep Layer”: operation to destroy an underground Iranian missile plant in Syria

Israel has claimed responsibility for a raid to destroy an underground Iranian weapons facility in the Masyaf region in the Syrian province of Hama, where precision-guided missiles were produced for Hezbollah.

The operation was carried out last September and was attributed to Israel, but until now the Jewish state has not claimed responsibility for it.

The operation, codenamed “Roved Amok” – “Deep Layer” – was carried out by soldiers of the Shaldag unit of the IDF Air Force. During the operation, commandos descended from helicopters and raided a scientific research center located in the Masyaf region – just 200 kilometers north of Israel and just 30 kilometers from the western coast of Syria.

During the raid, Israeli commandos seized documents and other materials from the Scientific Research Center before planting explosives to destroy the underground weapons facility. The underground facility where precision weapons were produced for Hezbollah was located in a mountainous area.

Air Force warplanes simultaneously attacked other targets in the area. According to Arab sources, at least 14 people were killed and another 43 were injured.
