The foreign ministers of France and Germany met with the new leader of Syria

Today, the foreign ministers of France and Germany had a meeting with the new leader of Syria in Damascus. This is the first visit of high-ranking leaders of the largest countries of the European Union to Syria since the Islamist militants came to power.

In the footage published by AFP, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Baro and his German counterpart Annalena Berbock are in the meeting with Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Before that, high-ranking European diplomats visited the infamous Saydnaya prison near Damascus, which has become a symbol of the brutality of the Assad regime for half a century.

“Now the international community must help bring justice to the people who have suffered here in this hellish prison,” Burbock said.
