Sala case, Italian ambassador received in Tehran: requests to Iran

L’Italian ambassador to TehranPaola Amadei, was received this morning at the Iranian Foreign Ministry for the case of Cecilia Salathe journalist detained since December 19th.

As far as we know, Amadei – who met with the ministry’s director for Europe – renewed his request for Sala’s immediate release and the possibility of having basic necessities delivered to her in prison.

Meanwhile, Giorgia Meloni’s government is working on the case, pressing Tehran not only for her release but also – while waiting – for treatment of the imprisoned reporter that is “respectful of human dignity”.

This was confirmed yesterday evening by a note from Palazzo Chigi, which in a note illustrated the government’s requests after a summit on the case and also placed emphasis on another prisoner: the Iranian engineer Mohammad Abedini, arrested at the request of the US in Malpensa on 22 December last, currently in prison in Milan, for whom Tehran in turn requests his release but who for now the prosecutor has asked not to transfer to house arrest. The judges’ decision on the 38-year-old Iranian is expected on December 15th.
