Clashes between Kurdish militias and pro-Turkish Syrian opponents increase in the north of the country

The predominantly Kurdish militias of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and pro-Turkish Syrian opponents have led to an increase in clashes in the Manbij district of northern Syria, according to information from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Sources close to the matter have indicated that at least 28 members of the pro-Turkish militias have died during the latest fighting, while several towns have been subject to heavy attacks by the Turkish Army. Furthermore, these forces have carried out a large-scale attack against several towns in the south and east of Manbij.

However, the SDF has assured that this operation has been “successfully repelled.” As a result of these attacks, a dam has been partially damaged, as indicated by these same sources.

The organization, based in London but with informants in the Arab country, has explained that the attacks between the parties have left 208 dead, including 25 civilians, during the last 23 days.

The city of Manbij is currently under the control of pro-Turkish militias, while the eastern and southern areas of the city are in the hands of Kurdish militiamen.
