González meets Milei and says he will assume the presidency

The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, will receive next Saturday (4), in Buenos Aires, Edmundo González Urrutia, Nicolás Maduro’s opponent in the presidential elections held in Venezuela in July last year. The information was confirmed this Thursday (2) by official sources to the EFE Agency.

The meeting, which takes place just a few days before the start of a new presidential term in Venezuela, will take place at Casa Rosada, the headquarters of the Argentine Government.

The press office of González, who is in asylum in Spain, indicated in a statement that his meeting with Milei will mark the beginning of an international trip for the Venezuelan opponent.

“This Saturday, January 4th, President González Urrutia will be received by the President of the Argentine Republic, Javier Milei. The meeting will take place at Casa Rosada”, says the statement, which invites “the entire Venezuelan community residing in Argentina” to gather at the doors of the Argentine Executive headquarters to “accompany” González.

The National Electoral Council (CNE), a body controlled by Chavismo, granted victory in the July elections to Maduro, a result questioned by the main anti-Chavista coalition, the Unitary Democratic Platform (PUD), and by a large part of the international community.

González reiterated that he will return to Venezuela to assume the presidency of his country on the 10th.

However, Maduro, who has publicly received support from state institutions, including the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), has also insisted that he will be sworn in as re-elected president.

This Thursday, the Chavista regime published a poster with a “capture order” for González on the social media of the Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Corps (Cicpc), offering a reward of US$100,000 to anyone who provides “information” about its location. Maduro accuses the opponent of a series of crimes, including “conspiracy, usurpation of functions and association to commit crime”.
