Chinese island could become nuclear weapons production center

A small Chinese island called Changbiao, located in the East China Sea, appears to be becoming a new center of nuclear activity for the Xi Jinping regime.

The territory, until recently uninhabited, is now receiving more attention from Beijing, with the construction of one of the most sophisticated state projects in history: “rapid breeding” nuclear reactors, which the Chinese Communist Party claims are only for “civil purposes.” .

The island is home to the first of two planned units. Despite the Xi regime saying that there are no military objectives in the region, Western officials and analysts think otherwise, believing that Changbiao could very soon become a kind of center for Beijing’s nuclear arsenal.

Last month, the Pentagon said China had drastically expanded its military production in recent months. A US Defense report estimated that Beijing has added around 100 nuclear warheads since 2023 to its arsenal, bringing its stockpile to more than 600 by mid-2024.

Although the Chinese regime is far behind other powers in this area, such as the USA and Russia, Beijing appears to have the objective of installing more than a thousand warheads by 2030, according to the document released by Washington.

Experts believe that once the reactors become operational, they could quickly be used to produce military-grade plutonium, along with other equipment also under construction in the country, which could later be used in nuclear missiles. .

According to the British newspaper The Telegrapheach reactor built in Changbiao will have the capacity to produce around 200 kilograms of plutonium per year, enough to manufacture 50 nuclear warheads. The second equipment should be completed in 2026.
