Security guard stole 44,000 euros from a shopping chain in Zagreb: ‘I was addicted to gambling at the time’

Security guard AJ was in charge of tracking money from client branches that hired the company he worked for. At the time when he was stealing, he mostly worked for a well-known retail chain in Zagreb, from which he stole a little more than 44,000 euros writes Jutarnji. At the beginning of January 2023, security guard AJ decided to take a bag with around 29 euros from the day-night vault. When he realized that he had succeeded, he continued to steal for the next month. He stole eight bags with amounts between 1,300 and 10,000 euros.

His superiors realized that the money was missing only about a month later, so they reported everything to the police. After the case was reported, the bank from which the money was stolen conducted a detailed inventory, while the witnesses confirmed that AJ Zaztitar was responsible for all the stolen shipments. Finally, he confessed everything to the investigators and said that his colleagues, who were on assignment with him, knew nothing about thefts.

– Since I was in problems, in debt, and it was squeezing me, I had to do it. I only took one bag in each drive and that at random. I don’t remember how much money I took in total. At that time I was addicted to gambling, I was squeezed by loan sharks and I had to take that money to get out of it – the security guard said in court.
