Fire: Dramatic rescue operation averts catastrophe in Carlsbad | News

Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) – Just a few kilometers behind the German border, Czech fire and police forces were able to prevent a major disaster in the world-famous Karlovy Vary.

On Thursday night, a fire broke out in a room on the first floor of an old people’s and nursing home with almost 100 residents. Now the police have released a video of the dramatic rescue operation.

The footage shows thick flames coming from an apartment. The rescue workers storm into the building, knock on several doors, sprint up one floor after the other, cheerfully calling and knocking on the sleeping residents. She would have been completely helpless alone. While the evacuation of the 97 people, most of whom had limited mobility, went smoothly, the fire was extinguished and prevented from spreading to another floor.

But then came the sad news: While the lives of all the others were saved, any help came too late for an 87-year-old woman in whose room the fire had broken out for an unknown reason.

Some apartments are still uninhabitable due to the fire. The city administration of Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) therefore provided replacement accommodation for eight people. Others affected were initially accommodated by their families. All other residents have already returned to their habitable apartments.
