In Yekaterinburg, FSB officers detained four teenagers in the case of “preparation of a terrorist attack,” Interfax reports with reference to the Public Relations Center of the Russian special service.

Russian citizens born in 2007 and 2008 were detained. Two of them are minors. The names of those detained are not disclosed.

The FSB said that the detainees “shared the ideas of a terrorist organization banned in Russia” and planned to carry out a terrorist attack using an improvised explosive device in Yekaterinburg. According to the department, two of the detainees “were also involved in the arson of an official car of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region” on the night of December 22, 2024.

During the search, components of a homemade explosive device were allegedly seized from the teenagers, as well as “communication equipment containing instructions for its manufacture.”

Criminal cases have been opened on preparation for a terrorist attack (Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code), illegal storage of explosives (Part 3 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code) and illegal manufacture of explosive devices (Part 2 of Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code).
