The Ukrainians have cheap and powerful drones in the war: They turned expensive tanks into ‘graveyards’…

Drones in the war in Ukraine completely revolutionized modern armed conflicts. One Russian blogger complained that every time Russian units launch an armored attack, the result is zero.

– This does not mean that the Russians are not making progress, especially south of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk province. They advance, but leave armored vehicles behind and attack defensive positions on foot – the Russian blogger wrote sarcastically.

– The Russians are slowly introducing a new doctrine that favors infantry as shock units instead of armored brigades. Partly to reduce the loss of technique, but also because of the impossibility of breaking through the lines that are well covered by reconnaissance and strike drones – explained Michael Kofman, a senior fellow from the Carnegie Foundation for International Peace in Washington, DC for Forbes.

– The matter is quite logical, scattered infantry is much harder to hit with a drone than a tank – added Kofman. How much drones have changed warfare is best witnessed by Russian and Ukrainian tanks covered with various protections made of sheet metal, wood and metal.

But not all Russian commanders are ready to just throw away the armored vehicles that have been the mainstay of every conventional ground army since World War II. Precisely because of the stubbornness of certain commanders, tank cemeteries reminiscent of the Trpinjska road can be seen every day, and some commanders go so far as to use vans, cars and golf carts in their attacks.

An anonymous blogger sarcastically called such commanders geniuses because, in the manner of Japanese banzai attacks, they send their troops to certain death. Russia’s switch to more and more infantry attacks only worsened the already difficult Ukrainian manpower situation.

Tatarigami, foundsč Ukrainian analysts of the Frontelligence Insight group blame Kiev for the lack of people.

– Ukrainian leaders neglected war mobilization, convinced that big wars are a thing of the past – wrote Tatarigami and added that Ukraine still does not carry out total mobilization in order not to undermine public opinion.

– In order to fill the ranks, Kiev is increasingly sending mortar crews and drone operators into the trenches. This weakens other segments of the army, and at the same time sends inexperienced people to the front lines – explained Tatarigami.

Ironically, by increasingly focusing on infantry attacks, the Russians destroyed those units of the Ukrainian army that forced them to leave armored vehicles behind.

Drones have simply turned once mobile mobile tanks into iron mastodons in this conflict. It is a particularly disturbing fact for modern armies that a cheap drone that can be made at home very easily turns a multi-million dollar tank and a piece of technology into a flaming wreck.
